One year into my computer science studies, I had an interview at a big tech company where I talked to a tech-savvy product owner, a former software engineer. He asked whether I'd heard about "Test-Driven Development" and strongly recommended to read a book about the topic, stating dramatically:
"It will change your life!"
I didn't take the job home but bought the book and started digging.
And it did change my life! The butterfly effect was tremendous.
Not only did I have a topic to discuss with the engineers at companies that I've worked at as a student. I also sometimes knew more about the subject than the actual engineers and had something to show in knowledge-sharing sessions.
But most importantly, I had a whole new, more structured approach to coding that helped me write better-quality code more confidently.
So it changed everything. It changed how I code, how I feel about my code, the quality of my code, and how I'm perceived as a developer.
I have loved talking and teaching about test-driven development ever since.
Since 2017, I've been giving workshops and talks about it at my day jobs, bootcamps, and 1-on-1 coachings.
